    The last British troops to leave India, the First Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry, passed through the Gateway in a ceremony on 28 February 1948.

    The hotel is Mumbai's first harbour landmark (built 21 years before the Gateway of India). For more than a century, the Taj has played an intrinsic part in the life of the city, hosting Maharajas, dignitaries and eminent personalities from across the globe.

    Mumbai Stock Exchange popularly known as the BSE is Asia's oldest stock exchange. The Exchange is located at Dalal Street in Mumbai. Originally it was called 'The Native Share & Stock Brokers Association' in 1875. It succeeded in earning permanent recognition from India Government in 1956 under the Securities Contracts Act.
